My 69 Nova L33 S476 project (Finally Some Runs)
#22
Love to see this build thread stepping up into fast pace. It is bitter sweet to sell off the carb'd engine, but I predict you will not miss it once you have the turbo LS engine running. Ron is one of those old school hot rodders that will do things right. I'm sure this rebuild will quickly exceed his BBC & nitrous performance. You've got plenty of folks here willing to help you out my Oregon friend. Let us know what you need. Unfortunately I don't have a job to offer you
.
.
I removed both fuel systems and the nitrous stuff today. I'll have a lot of stuff I can sell and re-use.
It is bittersweet. But out of sight out of mind, onward through the fog!
I'll keep this updated. It is a cross between a conversion and forced ind, but I'll keep it here.
Ron

I run the same Moroso solid motor mounts without any bending issue. Must be the 6-speed. I have wondered (out loud) when it's time to step up to an engine plate. There must be a lot of shock going on with that manual transmission launch.

Ya I'm sure the manual is much more intense than an auto, lol.
I still beleive that Ron should put the plate in at the start.
When i discovered my problem, the first thing that crossed my mind is HOLY ****, what if that let go during a pass? the throttle would stick wfo, and I might die.
So this is Safety advice. The power theese things make is no joke.
Anyway enough soap box crap, Good luck Ron, and have fun!

Feedback is appreciated Barrett. I have my own soapbox. :-)
This is now something I'll watch for.
I see you over on the chevelle or Camaro site right?
Mast pan, TCI flexplate, hooker mount plates are on the way. I just might get this thing stabbed in this coming weekend!

That and they let sponsors dog the **** out of you but if you say anything back or post your time slip in one of their threads they get all pissed off. Hey Ron post my 5.99 slip in the Performance section and watch what happens....

Mid plates are a good idea once you approch 800 fwhp. I prob should have them on my car but I would not be able to rout my pipes how I have them and keep the stock looking theam of my car. I hate a solid mounted engine all together it makes car a bitch to drive. I've thought about making some good straps for all 4 cornors. I think that would help a lot and not cause too much trouble. If I end up putting a Ls into my 66 chevelle I can assure you engine will NOT be solid mounted.

Having a seat bolted to the cage is what really makes it bad. I have been thinking about going back to the factory bench seat in my car but can't really afford the weight. Im already 50 lbs heavy for one and 125 lbs another over race weight for the classes I run.

I'm going to use the rubber mounts that just came off the BB. They are fine. Going to drop it in on the BB frame stands too and see what happens. The BB stands move the engine 1/2" towards the pass side. Might help with clearance around the steering box.

that might work out good. my left manifold is about 1/4 from the steering box so the bbc stands might help out I used truck manifolds with vbands welded on.. I don't know what oilpan your using but the gm musclecar pan fits good but is damn close to the crossmember in the center.

I used an autokraft pan, seemed to be the best bang for the buck, and included oil filter mount and pickup. nice baffling too.
I dont know if I have bbc or sbc stand in my car but the engine is 1/2" toward the pass side. I only needed to grind off a boss cast onto the truck manifold I used, for it to fit nice on that side, and I cut the flange off and welded a stainles v-band outlet on it. The pass side I cut and modified the outlet angle on the manifold to clear the frame, and welded a 2.5"peice of stainless tube to it with a v-band. worked out decent.

Interesting. I have never had anything but solid mounts. I thought my car was pretty nice to drive. I like the solid mounts only because I didn't use any flex pipe whatsoever in my build. Hot or coldside. So far no issues after almost 2 years with this set up. What is it you don't like about the solid mounts? Just the ride?
