6.0L turbo build........GT45 or On3 78/76?????
What's up LS1Tech?! I'm new to the whole turbo thing, just getting my feet wet. I am building a low buck(if that is even possible) turbo car for street purposes. This will not be a track car, however I would like to get the best bang for the buck. I purchased a GT45 over the winter for the build keeping with the whole budget theme, but when I seen the On3 78/76 I ordered one the very next day! So now I have both and here's where my delima starts. I have been following the On3 78/76 thread but not alot of results yet so I guess I'm just hoping someone with experience on proper sizing will chime in as well. My car is:
99 Firebird
Rebuilt(stock) 6.0L LQ4 .030 over
L92 heads
Stock LS3 intake
Edlebrock 90mm TB
Stock 3.42 G80 rear (for now)
03 4L80E (69K miles)
Transgo HD-2 kit
Leaning toward the FTI billet 28-3000 stall
The cam I have is not really optimal for this set up being that it is a supercharger cam- Specs are 228/242 .588/.609.
I know some are gonna say just dump the cam, get another one spec'd for this set up, and get a S480. But right now I just want to use what I have. I do not think I can really be dissatisfied because I've never drove a car with more than 450rwhp, so anything over that should be plenty. That being said I am open to all advice and opinions, just hoping to find some who may have some experience in this department.
Oh, and this will be a front mount setup. I'd appreciate all the help I can get. Thanks in advance! If it wasn't for all the great builds on the Tech I probably wouldn't even have the stuff I do, so again, thanks!

I'd run the on3 turbo. I used the on3 76 on my car when it was first going and made 606/570 on 13 lbs. Switched to a Turbonetics 7875 and picked up decent power. Neither turbo pulled much past 5500 rpm on my LQ4 but it was a fun ride. I think you will make more power with the on3 for sure.

I'd go with the ON3 turbo, if I were you. What kit/setup are you going to run?
As far as the FTI converter, do it! I got mine (4l60e billet single disc) spec'd from Greg for a turbo setup. I'm still bolt-on, 2.73 gears (I know I know), untuned and it runs HARD. I cut a 1.89 60ft on crappy street tires, leaving at 1k rpm. FTI's customer service and warranty is unbeatable, you cant go wrong with them for sure.
Good luck!

Building my own hot side. This is my first attempt. I'd take any suggestions I could get on that too. I've been looking at the sticky on building a DIY front mount set up using truck manifolds. I've even v-banded a set. Hoping this thing will work out as planned!
I seen your vids on YouTube. Nice work. I would be satisfied with a 600rwhp work car any day!
