Default Need some help with gearing!!

ok im stuck in a bind. Id like to gear my 8.8 down for least amount of highway rpms while being able to load the turbo up really good. I do alot of highway driving. I cant find a new set of 2.73s to save my life. However I found a USED set for $59 shipped... or I could get a set of NEW 3.08s from summit for $150.
Do the used 2.73s look safe to buy? Theyre a takeout from a mustang.

It's only $60...you havent much to lose really.

And if they're genuine Ford parts, all the better.

What tranny are you running and what size tire? I'd personally run the 3.08's as I doubt you'd notice an appreciable MPG or RPM difference unless you're running a short tire. There are plenty of turbo Foxbody Fords running factory 3.08 gears loading the turbo fine with 3 speed trannies and 26-28" tires.

If you don't have a lock-up converter, 3.08 is as high gear as you need to go. 3.08 with a T400 works well.

Ron, I used to swap a TON of Mustang gears. Back in the day, the ONLY gears I would use, were Ford motorsport gears. I would have no problem using a used set of factory gears that look like those do. 2:73's, 3:08's, your choice, but I can tell you this from experience: Ford had really really close tolerances on their gears, and if you go from a Ford gear to a Ford gear, use the exact same shim set everywhere, and IF you have to change anything, it will probably be a side to side and a VERY small amount. It really helps speed up installation. Just my experience.
