Default Tiny Single Turbo?

Hi everyone, new guy here. I have done a lot of V8 work and a lot of turbo work on 4 cylinder cars. I'm not the expert on either and this will be my first turbocharged V8.

I have a 79 C10 that I'm thinking I need to swap a 5.3 in to. I have a low milage turbo that I removed from my little Acura to replace with an even smaller turbo. This one is a PT6262..

Now I know this is small, but somewhere I believe I saw a company that did a turbo kit for an LS1 using the 6262. It really seems much too small, but I have very modest goals. I'd like a smaller, torquey set up for this old truck, nothing too crazy. Is this thing usable? Other than being only 62mm, it also has the smaller .64 A/R hot side, but I am guessing I can have Precision swap that out for a .82 if it would work ok.

4-500 WHP and a lot of torque would be fantastic (I'm making well over 400 with a PT5858 on a 2.0 engine, surely this isn't asking too much!), so what are your thoughts? Way too small and stick with a 70+ mm?

Way to small, back pressure will be thru the roof and the exh wheel is too small. Sell it and buy a $200 shipped Gt45.

That's what I thought! Really was wondering how this company was doing a single kit with a 6262. Is the Gt45 a "china turbo"? I've seen these mentioned a lot in regards to use for LS engines.

Yes it's a china turbo, though it's one of the few that seems to hold up well. They are even cheaper now. $189 shipped!

Good for 600ish crank hp on a stockish 5.3.

Great, thank you for the info. At that price, it would take a lot of them crapping out to make up for not buying something for a lot more money

should spool real quick and power depends on the amount of boost you plan on running and what your motor can handle
