People claim you cant use a dished 5.3 piston on gen 4 rods, and theirs a few that actually came like that from the factory. Hmmm.

My 5.3 is a 2005 and it came with dished pistons with floating pins on the fatter rods. Maybe mid year build, who knows.

First off, the pistons would have to have the receiver groove to accept the wrist pin snap ring. Typically, pressed pin pistons don't have the groove. Secondly, sneak inside and use you a food scale to weigh the gen 3 and gen 4 pistons. If they're close and have the groove, no problem. Why not just use the ones on the gen 4 rods?

Look for a short block. That way you'd have a Spare crank and block.

Think I paid something silly like $35 for one. The last 4.8 I built had 1 damaged rod/piston.

Yup was this one. Floating pin, flat top. Same for 4.8 and 5.3

Basically more expensive than the hyper speed pros that look beefier.

They should, always wanted to see those would do! Going to use your old rings and the piston pins and retaining rings from the gen4 pistons?

Those noodled up rods kill me!

Did you weigh the respective piston and rod combos to see if/how your bob weights changed? (just for the fun of it that is, I don't expect you're going to go back and have the crank balance changed if this truly is sloppy mechanics style)
