Default rebuilding turbos

Is it as easy to rebuild a turbo as it looks or am i missing something.

i am planning on converting a set of T3 turbos to hybrids and i was gonna replace all the bearings and everything while im at it. Is this easy to do on your own?

Since no one else chimed in I'll answer the best that I can.

I was involved in taking apart a garett and a mitsubishi turbo. Both of which seem to be pretty straight forward. My garett didn't use ball bearings so I can't answer that.

I have some pictures of a garett being taken apart. Let me get them hosted on my website and make a post.

the turbo ***. will need to be rebalanced . If you just plan on replacing the bearings and seals, you need to mark the compressor wheel nut and the compressor wheel itself and the shaft, all together to make sure they all line back up in the exact same spot. If this is not done ,or anthing else that could cause unbalancing of the assembly, will cause bad problems <img border="0" alt="[driving]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_driving3.gif" />

The above is only true if everything was balanced together on a VSR machine. Lots of times they aren't...you can tell if the whole assembly was balanced by looking at the compressor nut. If the compressor nut has been ground in any way, then yes you will need to do the markings. Honestly i'd have it rebalanced.

However...if there isn't. Dont worry about it. The wheels are balanced separately from the factory

Whoops....forgot about the balancing. Yes on my Garett's the nut was ground partially. Should definitely be marked.
