Default Maiden Voyage-Twin T67's-Short Video

Got back from the track an hour to so ago.

1st off on Friday night - at a street shoot-out - our track manager promised me a great track on Sunday. Well guess what? It was crap. He had no explanation - track was a vet rental.

1st pass out of the trailer; no transbrake. Tried to foot brake it. Track wouldn't even hold 2,000rpms on the line. Could feel the tires braking loose and it pushing at the same time. Obvious the start of a crap run, nailed the gas, went from side of the track to the center line. Had to get out of it 3 times. A great run . 6lbs of boost. Only 40-45% trottle. I will not even repeat the time.

2nd pass: Left off idle. Only partial trottle all the way into 3rd gear.2.0 60'; 11.466 at 133.578. Track wouldn't hold anything. Again only 6lbs of boost; 45-50% trottle.

3rd pass: Left off idle again, 1.92 60'; 7.199 at 106.590 1/8 mile; 10.760 at 139.012. 7lbs max; 50-55% trottle - only on top end.

No mechanical problems. The tune was dead on. Had to drive the **** out of the car on all 3 runs. We packed it up and went home. And the weather, **** almost 90, max humity.

Overall, not bad. The times will be there. If the track would have been prep right, 9's would have been in the bag on 8lbs - only about 1/2 our goal.

Here's a short video of the 3rd run. Maybe next week it will be different.

Cool times...can you post the logs of your runs? How do you keep it steady at 50-55% throttle? lol

Sorry guys. Our local server has been down. Link has been fixed.

Some anwers.

I'm using Hoosier 30x10.5x15R. Only about 30 passes. It really wasn't the tires, but the track conditions. No one was hooking. The Friday night street shoot out and than the vets just killed the track.

Logs. Remember I'm running an AEM. We data log the runs, not sure that I know how to post their logs. Basically, A/F maintained right at 11.8-12.0. Timing at 23 degrees. Engine temp never got about 170. Fans never kicked in, even in this heat.

How can I maintain 50% throttle. Actually is was 50% max. I had to feather it out of the hole, and than gently increase it. My 1st run I got way to aggressive and almost put into the wall and than the other lane. Not good. Live and learn.

You guys are right. The SS is a beast. This old man need to learn how to drive all over.

Here's a picture of the SS.

That good

If you watch the video, the car is not smoke, it was the tires hazing the entire 1/4 mile

David,

Congrats on getting it down the track a few times, even if it wasn't optimal conditions. The car definitely has a lot left in it and those MPH's are sick for how little you got into it! Just keep at it, we know you'll get there!

I think you'll realize it's much easier to drive when you get the chassis working...I went faster than that first pass off the trailer and I was bored cuz the car just went straight and I haven't even touched the suspension. I actually thought something was wrong with the car because I can nail it in 2nd gear on the street and it just moves out...felt slow so I figured something was wrong until I got the timeslip.

Good luck and remember to take that throttle stop off! Hell my car won't even build boost at 50% throttle...I'm guessing it would go like 16's at 50%...

Congrats on getting the car out! It sucks about the track. The car looks nice, you have plenty of summer to run some numbers.

Well the track was good at the begining of the day. But when the Corvettes idea of going fast is spining the tires half way down the track it turns the track into complete crap in a hurry. The track will be better next weekend, it will be scraped and not so many street cars will help also.

Heres a vid I shot today of the 10.76 pass. The camera has no zoom when shotting video so half the vid is worthless.

I cant wait to see it make a full pass.

I had massive traction issues at gainesville today. The track was greasy as hell plus it had to have been over 100 with the heat index and i was bumping the rev limiter on the 2-3 shift. I couldn't get on it till it hit 3rd gear. Oh well, got some bugs to work out.

Never had to really "drive" the SS on nitrous - maybe once or twice; way different on Sunday.

Next Saturday another car show; next TNT for me is next Sunday. Not sure when I'll be comfortable enough to get back into the point (and $$$).

Holy wow reading your thread and dyno thread!! Thats simply nuts your car.Obviously it sounds like much past even 600 rwhp traction becomes huge huge problem. So trac prep guess becomes super critical. We have a second gen twin turbo big block beast at our track and its very similar. He smokes them all the way down the track and still runs like 140mph but his ets are not that great. Its pretty neat though and sounds great.
Maybe I should mellow back on my plans for my car a bit since it sounds even more useless to have much past 500rwhp on the street let alone the track.
I am so far just going to be running t61s not 67s like you have although of course they are only a bolt on away later.I have no desire to run much faster than 10s with my car and it won't be on the track very long either.11.5 and off for no cage..should be able to do that pretty easily.
Anyway your car is one crazy beast for sure.Curious to see how my almost finished 97 talon awd will do at the track maybe this season or next. Its got around 650 engine hp potential off spray and over 800 on spray.I hear awd won't help much on it at those power levels anyway but one guy in similar dsm manages 10s on street tires somehow with similar set up at around that 130s to 140 range.Off spray.Pretty amazing for street tires not even nittos!
