Default Those who have done turbo builds

K I'm just starting to look into turbo set-ups.. just to see if I'd like to go that route. I have a very nice SS that I don't really want to hack up or cut anything. Are any of these kits able to be installed without drilling holes and cutting? What's the usual cost for just to run like 6-7psi.. not really pushing the bottom end but boosting an ok safe amount .

Get a budget then multiply it times 2 or 3 if you want how much it will cost to get it running right. Thats what i tell everyone who goes the turbo route. I have a handful of friends that went the turbo route and didnt believe me about the cost but once they do it they realize i was right

why? I mean yeah figure the tunning and all. But not including the rear and clutch and all that.. just the kit and tunning I would think? But times it by 2 or 3.. sheesh that's steep

Also, your never safe. When i first had my turbo on the car it was only running 6.5lbs of boost and blew up on the dyno during tuning before i even got to drive it. (I had 93 in the tank btw)

But it has come a LONG way since then

Ya the deal usually is there is always something you never even think about that you need or something random breaks because of the kit and it just starts adding up.

dont worry you can 5un 5 ish psi on your stock motor. You could do a sts rear mount for about 4k or a turbo technology street kit for about 6k I beleive. My friend is running a StS wih stock motor and 42lb injectors with a 255 pump and he runs 9 psi fine.Made 500 rwhp

If you dont want to hack anything up, then STS is the way to go. Plenty of people over 400rwhp to the wheels with 6 psi of boost or less.. You have to consider fuel system upgrades, gauges, tuning - as a must. Optional equipment are things like boost controllers, BOVs, intercooler, low CR heads (317s), cam.. At the least, I would keep a budget as low as 1.5 times the cost of the turbo kit ALONE..

hmm, yeah the sts would make the most sense in my situation the way I feel about the car and all;however, my gmmg might not allow me to go sts. Well it was just an idea and I'll do some thinking. Might just go head/cam but i do have a lot of respect for you turbo guys. REAL impressive.
