Default Turbo cars with aluminum vs. steel flywheel

Does anyone have any facts or proof on launching or roll racing and power numbers with an aluminum vs. a steel flywheel?

Bump. Looking for help on this too. I have an aluminum one, but the more i look im not sure if I will like it or not. I would love for it to rev fast and be fun to drive. At the same time i want to launch the car at the track and get a decent 60'. Anyone tried both?

I've run both. The heavier flywheel will get you out of the hole better but it's harder on parts. On an already heavy twin disc, I choose to go aluminum the second time out. Aluminum will make more power to the wheels and rev faster due to lower mass.

Well im looking at the Mcleod Twin disk now, so i may end up keeping the aluminum one.

Very interesting. Ive been debating the same thing! My car will be a heavy pig, (close to 4000lbs) so I was thing a steel flywheel but never took in account the heavier twin disk clutch. Im sure your cars are alot light than mine, so it hard to compare. How "boggy" is the launch with a AL flywheel?

Thanks - Ron

I wold rather have a bulletproof strong flywheel, than a light one.

Given the power these motors make, I would think it safe to say, there would be no measurable difference in acceleration perforance between a steel or alloy flywheel in real life.
