Default draining fuel tank

I am in the middle of my engine swap and have the engine out of the car. I tried to drain the tank today by tripping the fuel pump fuse and letting the pump empty it for me. However when I turned the key to on, the fuel pump did nothing. Even when I put the fuse back in, the pump did nothing. My question is do any sensors (ie. Fuel injectors etc.) need to be plugged in to drain the tank with the fuel pump. Any help appreciated. Thanks.

no the injectors dont need to be pluged up. But the pump only runs for a second or so, That way to drain the tank is bad on the pump and will take along time. I suggest buying a pump and pulling out the fuel pump bucket and going at it like that.

I thought that if I tripped the fuel pump fuse, it would run continually. But even when I put the fuse back in. The pump didn't even try to prime the rails. Where is this fuel pump bucket you're talking about. And what kinda pump would you use? Thanks for the idea.
