Default what causes air in the fuel lines?

maybe the evap soloniod? the car is a 1995 lt1 w/ rebuilt motor/trans and a new fuel pump but the gas is old it would run before with the old gas just not great tried running the gas out of it and now when i relieve fuel pressure from the shreader valve it spews out liquid fuel and a lot of air. so basicily the car now wont run with out the help of starting fluid.
anyone seen something like this before or have an idea?

You need to drain the old gas out....do not use it.
I believe the 'air' you are hearing is the pressure in the system, not actual air. Your car might not run good now because of the old gas, and\or you have now clogged the new fuel pump filter and it can't suck any fuel.
You need to start over, drop the tank, drain it, get a new pump filter and maybe another new pump also...then put some fresh gas in. If you still have problems, the old gas probably gummed up something else also....good luck
