1/4" fuel return line for 4.8 Vortec?

1/4" fuel return line for 4.8 Vortec? I know the stock return line is 5/16. But do I really have to go to 5/16 for s tock 4.8 engine? I'd rather keep my stock 1/4" if it is ok.
Is anyone running a 1/4" return line?

I think the line that goes to the canister which is also metal (the line not the caister) is bigger, probably the required 5/16. It runs on the other side of the car but the starting end is at roughly the same place as the feed line. I will use that and some high pressure collars and rubber tubing. to connect to it.
