You 'can' however it will take modifications to your 96 bucket to get it to fit and to hook it up. That 04 CTS-V pump (it's the same pump that was in the Z06) is basically the early OE version of the current 'Walbro 400' that was released a few months ago, but the CTS-V OE pump only flows about 265lph at typical voltage/pressure, not 400lph like the recent high performance aftermarket version. If you are going to go to the trouble of changing your pump, I would suggest getting a new 96 Camaro specific pump/kit from Racetronix that will plug right in versus monkeying around with your used CTS-V pump.

thanks alot for the info. I'll just order a complete aftermarket set-up.You would happen know who has the best prices on the racetronics or walbros. The car is the wifes bone stock SS they gets about 2500 miles a year

If the car is stock you should just replace with the entire OE sender assembly, no sense in a high performance pump, you need Delphi p/n HP10036. You can get it from Amazon pretty cheap:

Make sure it comes in a box with Delphi sticker on the side and on the flange of the part will be sticker with 'Delphi' and the p/n.
