Default fuel gauge not reading right

I had a suspision it wasnt right. When i filled up today, it read 1/8th lower. Ill also notice when i drive ill look down every once in awhile and ill think to myself "i didnt go through that much gas".... The previous owner installed a new fuel pump. Is there something he may of did wrong?? how do i troubleshoot this??

The lever in the fuel tank is worn. I have the same problem when I get anywhere below half full it will read full, then dip to empty, then to one fourth, etc. The contacts where the wiper arm or likely going bad. You have to either drop the tank or cut a trap door on the top of the tank to replace the faulty part. There is a right up for the trap door somewhere on the forum.
