How to replace 4th gen Fuel Pump???
I think the fuel pump is on it's way out in my 4th gen. I go to start the car and I do not hear the pump charging before cranking. I have swapped relays around and it appears to help, but that might just be coincidental. If I cycle the key several times it usually starts and is fine once running. I see people cutting a trap door in the back to change the pump, but I am not sure if I want to do that. How much of a PIA is it to drop the tank and change it the old fashioned way? What special tools do I need?
Thanks.
Thanks.

depends what you buy... most will recommend the Racetronix setup, which will be just the pump or the pump and a wiring solution (bigger gauge +12v, plug & play). neither comes with the bucket assembly, but i'm sure one of the sponsors would be happy charge you for that. i got the pump and wiring 8 years ago, and have no problems so far.

IIRC, dropping the tank in not a no-brainer. I think the exhaust and rear axle were in the way. After dropping the tank once, I cut a trap door. Re: Racetronix, my first one worked fine until I maxed out the 30# Ford injectors and replaced them with 42# Lucas. I discovered that fuel pressure was dropping off at high RPM. A new pump (although that one was less than a year old) solved the problem for a while. Yesterday I only had 30psi so I am now looking for a different solution than Racetronix.
