Default Need some wisdom on fuel pumps!

Hi guys i need some help selecting a fuel pump. im pretty sure mine is on the way out. so i was wondering if some knowledgeable members could point me in the right direction as a replacement. ive kinda been eyeing the racetronix pump with the fuel harness. would that be to much for a stock engine? im kinda trying to plan ahead so i wont have to replace it again when i start doing power adders in the future.

also id like to eliminate the in-tank regulator in case thats my actual problem and not the fuel pump. i figure while im in there might as well just do it all. whats the best way to go about this?

Thanks ahead of time, also i know the racetronix is like 210 from their site. what would i be looking at for a out of the tank regulator?

Removing the in tank regulator, requires dropping the tank or cutting an access hole in the trunk floor.
Once the pump is out, remove the regulator by pushing the retainer clip off.
In the photo it doesn't look like there is room to push the retainer up, but there is room.

Yes, I went to an external regulator.
It is an Aeromotive.
I purchased it on E-bay for about $125.00 or so.
It has been a long time.

No recommended. If you do this, return fuel will not go back into the bucket which is required.

Is this what is needed to replace/bypass the removed fuel regulator so that fuel still returns to the bucket?

I was unsure if my regulator is my issue. I purchased a replacement from Lonnies. It was $35-40 and OEM. Much cheaper than the external, and no worries of support mods.

The stock intank regulator will be fine for you now but once you go up the horsepower ladder so to speak it will become a bottle neck.

Thanks for the advice.at what amount of power does the stock regulator become a bottle neck? If you do the trap door method. Are you still able to run the racetronix harness? Also how do you resecure the The square you cut out?

The reg does not BECOME a bottleneck which limits power. The factory reg IS a bottleneck which causes a pressure rise when excessive pump volume is forced through it. This is why there is a small pressure rise when a HP pump is installed. For high HP apps it is always best to relocate the reg beside the fuel rail to eliminate pressure rise and drop due to regulator design and location.

Well for a stock engine would you recommend I just replace the stock regulator with another one. And wait to run an external regulator until other mods are made? Would your pump still be fine with the intank regulator?

FPA-001A HP pump assembly is fine with the factory regulator assuming it is working properly. The FPA-001A + FPWK-017A can support apx. 550RWHP FI or 600RWHP NA (BSFC dependent).
