Default Pinging at WOT..Plugs bad?

Getting pinging at WOT, and I have searched and found that Plugs can sometimes be the cause. I have tr55's in there now, they have been in since I bought the car. What is a good plug for my mods and what should i gap them. I have seen people gap them all the way from .38 - .60. why such a range?

try 100 octane, if it goes away, then it's too much timing, if it doesn't, then it's fake and gotta start looking elsewhere (exhaust banging on the crossmember is a popular one)

For the plugs, I'm running TR5's gapped at .045. Tr55's come gapped at .055, TR5's come at .039. It's easier to gap a .039 plug to .045 than a .055. I chose .045 based on power levels.

I've been having the same problem lately. The car starts to ping right in between shift points. I know this is slowing me down since the knock sensors are picking this up and retarding the crap out of the timing. I've been running only 93 octane and I can't get anything higher locally. HELP!

I dont thimk plugs are where you should start looking. But if you change them and the problem goes away thats great.Do you have a way of checking with a scanner for Knock retard while driving?Have your temps been above normal?Check out GM service bulletins on detonation troubleshooting. That will give you a step by step approach to finding your problem.Good luck

Where do you find gm service bulletins? This problem still persists. Temp has been fine, Use 93 octane(highest available in my area). Knock retard is present. seems to change everytime I check though, sometimes its only 1-2 degrees, sometimes as much as 5-6! wtf. I cant mod anymore till i get this sorted out. Doesnt make the end of summer very fun.
