Default fuelpump went out upgrade or not

The other day my car died on me. I have a 99 t/a 50,000 miles with full exhaust (LG kook headers, 3in true dual H pipe dump), cold air intake and thats all for performance right now i plan on putting head and cam on her later but im a freshman in college so im going to save my money for unexpected things like this. It died on me while I was in town so i had it towed to a local mechanic and he said it was the fuel pump and would be $1000 for parts and labor. I looked around and found out that a stock fuel pump cost 520 from gm and 409 from napa and a couple of other places. with the mod i have right now would it hurt to just go ahead and upgrade i know right now i dont need the extra gas but the racetronix fuel pump is still cheaper than a stock one. and the labor talking about dropping the gas tank, axal, DS, and everything else to get to it i think i would be better to do the trap door mod. Opinions welcome

I'll sell you my stock one for $50 shipped if you want. And I agree, trap door makes it way easy if you ever need to get back in there in the future.
