Default 9 bolt borg-warner rearend fit in a 2000 Z-28

I have heard the 9 bolts are stronger than stock 10 bolts. my car has 2.73, and am looking to change them. I came across locally a complete 9 bolt axles discs and 3.45? for 200$. I am wondering If they are interchangable and would it be worth it for only $200 plus labor to install? Please be honest just looking to get a better gear though this might be a very cheap way out.

dont even waste your time on that rear end, not that strong and parts are rare and expensive, plus it is too narrow for your car

If you want a cheap rear-end get a 8.5 inch 10 bolt, and if you look around a salvage yard quite a few came with disk brakes in the 70's

i had a 9 bolt and couldnt give it away. if its an iron caliper rear, then it takes a special fitting for the brake lines too.
they are actually 7 7/8" and have 30 spline axles. stock for stock they are stronger, but its kinda a waste, IMO.
for 200 you can almost do a gear swap if you did it yourself.
local price here is 120-150 labor. nother buck or two and you can have a gear in yours.

Save up do it right.... Not some Salvage yard junk.... It will be more money and work to half *** something than just order a purpose built set up from one of the sponsors....

Again, they have no TA provision.

9 bolt pro's:
-Slightly stronger than a ten bolt.
-Can shim the cones to make it "tighter"
-There are some upgrades to make it stronger.
-Bolt in axles instead of c-clips.
Con's:
-1.5" narrower per side (you'll have to use custom wheels or bolt on spacers)
-No ABS provisions (you may be able to modify one to use 4 channel ABS..haven't looked into it).
-Didn't offer our style of rear brakes. You'll either have to fab to make your ls1 brakes work or if you get an 88-90 model one that has the Alum. PBR brakes you can use them (they're the same as 93-97 LT1 F-body brakes)
-Parts are slightly more expensive and can be hard to find (if you don't know where to get them); you can find whatever you need for one on www.thirdgen.org if you're willing to search. I have a huge post on there...just search under drain89 and 9bolt

I said f-it and bought a strange 12 bolt.
You could sell it for more than 200 on thirdgen.org...especially if it has the later style rear discs on it.
