american axle manufacturing ??
i have a 98 trans am a4, and i was under the impression that it had an aluminum d/s from the factory, but mine has surface rust on it.... i never thought it was a big deal because ive seen for sale adds with stock aluminum and stock steel driveshafts, i figured maybe mine just had a stock steel one put in... well i saw a sticker on it today that said american axle and manufacturing, does anyone know if they made our stock driveshafts or did someone put in a aftermarket one before me? i looked at their website and it seems like a legit company that does make some axles and driveshafts for dealers.... thanks for any help!

American Axle and Manufacturing is one of the largest gear and drivetrain component manufacturers in the world. They are one of GM's largest suppliers and make most of the gears and driveshafts for them. If you can get your hands on a set of AAM gears, they are the only ones available in the aftermarket that will make NO noise.

Mine has a steel driveshaft in it. (98 z28 A4 2.73's)If your car came is an auto with 2.73's or 3.08's you have a steel one for sure. I believe only M6 cars got aluminum. And yes AAM made both.
