Default which is better 9" or 12 bolt?

I am wondering if the 9" rear end is worth the extra 300-400 dollars? I have seen some posts of people breaking the 12 bolts but I haven't seen any post of anyone breaking a 9".

Nine inch by far- Change gears in 20 minutes -if you have another carrrier ready to go -but most companies rip us f-body guys off for them IMO

Ditto on the gear changing. The only problem with the Ford 9 is the passenger car version with 28spline axles. You will usually break the axle , bust up the pinions , or break the oem carrier , especially if itis the factory posi one with 4 one inch holes around the carrier. So start with 31 splines, that was standard equipment in the drag pack offered by Ford in the late 60s and early 70's.

The best part of the Ford9 is when you do break an axleshaft ,you donot get a free fender flare job. Bearings are pressed on the axles and retained by the backing plate. Most 12 bolts are c-clipped unless ordered differently.
