Default How can I tell what gears I have?

A while back, I screwed up my rearend and had a local shop find and install a used one. I didn't bother asking what gears it had. Now, I would like to know. Is there any way to find out what gears my car has without taking anything apart?

I have a 2000 ta a4.

Jack up the back of the car. Put the car in neutral. Mark the driveshaft and the tire. Spin the driveshaft until the tire rotates once. The number of rotations of the driveshaft should tell you the gears.
2.73=about 2 and 3/4 turns
3.23=about 3 and 1/4 turns
3.42=about 3 and 1/2 turn
so on and so forth

put the car in fourth gear or what ever direct drive is on the 4l60e 3rd gear I think drive the car at 60 mph record the rpm. Then take the rpm multiple it by your tire size write that number down. Now take the mph (60) and multiple it by 336 write that number down. Now divide the first number by the second number bingo bango your gear ratio! No jacking cars up or taking stuff apart lol. So thats RPM X TIRE SIZE/ MPHX336= GEAR RATIO. Oh and if you need to convert a tire size like 275/40/17 just google the conversion. Math is awesome!
