Default 3.73's VS 4.10's

Hi, i have a 97 Z28 M6, and i was wondering ABOUT how much would my et's drop in the 1/4 w/ 3.73's and 4.10's. I dont want to loose highway totally, as i raced a friend of a friend's 11sec modded cobra on the highway, and he had 4.30's and from a 50mph roll, i pulled on him. But in the 1/4, how many tenths will the 3.73's drop, and many tenths will the 4.10's drop. THanks, David.

i've had both 3.73 and 4.11's in my 01 ws6. the 3.73's will drop et by a tenth, the 4.11's can drop it by 3 tenths. you will need sticker tires with the 4.10's. if you have a stock 10bolt with the sticker tires you may be asking for trouble as the rear is...well...........stock is JUNK. i'de give the 3.73's a shot, you will feel a difference, they are also good on the hwy-m6 80mph=1,900rpm's goodluck to ya.

In my case:

Stock 3.42 with SZ50 (275/40/17)
Average: 13.7@105 / 60 ft 2.2
Best: 13.498@105.409 / 60 ft 2.088

GM 4.10 with SZ50 (275/40/17)
Average: 14.1@105 / 60 ft 2.3
Best: 13.783@106.7xx / 60 ft 2.189
ARRRGH!!! needed some traction at that point...

GM 4.10 with second hand (read "almost gone") BFG D/R (255/50/16)
Average: 13.5@106.5 / 60 ft 2.1
Best: 13.330@107.378 / 60 ft 1.978

My engine is basically stock (lid, 160, hpp3). I could probably gain another tenth with new D/R. My clutch is also slipping more with the 4.10.

IMHO, with sticky tire and a good clutch, you will probably shave .2 with 3.73 and .3-.4 with 4.10. But be careful with that 10-bolts! Mine was dead silent when installed but it's now whining badly at all speed after only 22 runs with the D/R. I don't think it could survive a high-rpm launch with ET or slicks (I'm launching at 2000 rpm). I'm not trusting this 10-bolts anymore!

Since I'm doing a 382 stroker, I will go with 3.73 (12-bolts). But for a stock to H/C engine with M6, I think the best gear is definately 4.10. Really fun to drive around town (but no traction in 1st) and the 6th is now usable and much more responsive on the road. There is virtually no difference in MPG between 3.42 and 4.10 also.

Good Luck with your choice!

Thanks guys for the reply. i think i am gonna go 4.10's. I have heard that 3.73's get old quick, and the 4.10's are just perfect. Wouldn't it be better to slip the clutch at the line if ur not getting traction? i slip the clutch now when i street race cuz i have no tread and it seems to be alot more effective my buddy with a 04 GT with full exhaust (longtubes, Hpipe, Borlas) and he was looking at my tail lights
