need help to find out what rear gear my cars has.

Default need help to find out what rear gear my cars has.

I tried a search and came up with tons of questions about gear changes and combos. i need to know if there is a way to tell what gear ratio my car has without takin the rearend apart. option sticker maybe? if so what code do i need to look for? it's a 1998 ws6 A4

Shawn. If it's stock, and the rear hasn't been apart, I believe it should have 3.23's, if it is a true WS6 car, but on a used vehicle, it's best to pull the diff. cover and count teeth. WJ.

Thanks, it's all stock a one female owner she told me she never had any work done to it so i gotta believe its the 3.23 then they didnt come with anything higher?

Easy way is to put it in 3rd gear and drive 65 your tach will read your gear ratio. For instance if you have 3.23s then the tach will read 3230 roughly.

Easiest way is to look at the RPO list on your drivers door.
Look for one of these codes:
GU2 = 2.73
GU5 = 3.23
GU6 = 3.42 (only found in M6 LS1s)

Rpos dont mean any thing if the somehas been into it.
