How do you center the rear u-joint in the pinion yoke?
This is related to my rear-end vibration thread that I posted. I took a look at my car and realized that my driveshaft may not be 100% perfectly centered in the pinion yoke. Obviously this would cause a huge vibration I would think, as the driveshaft would basically be wobbling.
The problem is, I can't see how to make it perfectly centered. The caps on the u-joint just kinda slide in and out easily, there is no notch that they sit in or anything. When tightening down the straps over the u-joint caps I can only really guess where "center" is before tightening them all the way. Unless I'm missing something? It was getting dark so maybe I couldn't see some sort of place where the u-joint caps could sit solidly before tightening everything up? Or do you just space the u-joint caps out a little bit, and the rotation of the driveshaft keeps it centered between the caps as it spins?
