new gears?

Default new gears?

i got a 98z its goin to the shop and the rear is getting rebuilt with all new bearings the car has 273's in it now should i go ahead and have a different gear put in it while its all apart? the car is an auto i dont go to the track its basically a cruiser but i do like to occasionally make a snot nosed brat eat **** from stoplight to stoplight so should i have the gears changed? and if so to what? thanx

You can get 3.42s or 3.73s. It's a good mod, but an upgraded converter like 3600 or higher is even better.

I'd go 3.73 if the car never goes to the track. I used to have 3.73 and it's a huge improvement over the stock A4 gear.

Since you have 2.73s' which has a 2 series carrier,the more common 'thick' gearsets available would be of 3.42 & 3.73.
3.42s' would give a 25% increase in torque to the pavement and mpg (freeway cruising) would be about 24.
3.73s' would give a 37% increase in torque to the pavement and mpg would be about 23.
Your 2.73 mpg should be about 26.
