Default Can I tell 2 or 3 series from VIN?

Trying to buy a christmas present but don't have access to the car. But I do have the VIN 2G1FP22G6W2136368 . It's a 98 automatic non-traction control car. Thanks

I don't think so. You can tell what the car had originally by the rpo codes in the door jam.
