Default Pinion nut tightening

How did you guys get your pinion nut torqued down on the stock 10 bolt? I got mine torqued down using my feet pressing on a torque wrench until it broke the bit off. My impact wouldn't move it an inch. I welded a socket onto a pipe to get it done. How did you guys do it without using a lift? Also is 25 inch pounds of preload too much for new bearings or just right?

Recommended is 20-25. I always shoot for 25. There is a couple of tricks to tightening it. 1. Get a good impact and get lucky (some crush sleeves are harder then others). 2. Get a 24 inch prybar and 24 inch breaker bar, get a friend to stick it in the yoke ears once you get your side on, they will fit and hold surprisingly. You lay on one side of the car and the friend lays on the other. You tighten as he keeps the pinion from turning with the prybar 3. Find a welder/or weld yourself and make you a hold fixture so the pinion cannot rotate so you can tighten the nut. Ive used all three of these methods.

Sounds like you did it right. Any noises or have you driven it yet?

Dip the nut in STP. Use a big pipe wrench to hold the U joint flange and a good breaker bar and a short pipe to turn the nut. It's a workout
