Arguement About Rear Gears.
Casual discussion with my father about rear gears turned into a heated debate. All i need is for some one to agree with me and prove him wrong. This situation is as follows. A stock automatic LT1 with 4.10s in the rear end WILL get worse gas mileage then a stock 6-speed LT1 with 4.10s. Further more the debate continued as to whether a stock automatic LT1 with 3.23 rear gears would get WORSE gas mileage then a stock 6-speed LT1 (both cars are assumed stock and band new from the factory). Please help me prove him how wrong he his!!

Your right. A4 with 4.10's will get worse gas milage than a m6 with 4.10's reason is the gearing in the tranny. A4 has only 4 gears which will make it have higher rpms which adds more fuel and gets worse mpgs. Also 4.10's will make you accelerate faster but have less top speed compared to 3.23's.

Six speed manual has a .5 to 1 overdrive. So the engine will run slower than the A4 with any rear end ratio. How that equates to MPG is a completely different question, but with 4.10's it a very good bet the six speed will win.
