Default Why do 9" Rears = Less Power?

Quick question: Why does everyone say they make you lose power to the wheels? Why is there more hp loss through a 9" rear?

More parasitic loss, heavier bigger ring gear and pinon, bigger heavier axles.

So really just because of more rotating weight?

The design of how the gears mesh takes more power then the same size 10 or 12 bolt. So that plus rotating mass and you do lose some power in the favor of strength.

the way a 9" is setup is instead of 1 tooth on the pinion contacting 1 tooth on the ring gear at a time, 2 teeth on the pinon touch 2 teeth on the ring gear almost the entire time. this is why the 9" is such a strong rear end, is also why you see it in 2k+ hp cars.
