Post up a link to that thread when you start it in this thread. I am definately interested to see how you do that, that is the plan I have in mind for my 8.8.

Hate to bring this back from the dead, but I'm curious.. So it would appear that you cut the 8.8 tubes about three inches off the housing, then cut the 10 bolt tubes to reuse for the spring landings and hub flanges, is this correct?

Correct, you cut the 10 bolt tubes flush with the housing.

Leaving more 8.8 tube in the housing is stronger but you have less room for exhaust over the axle. I left about 4" as I recall but I wish I would have gone with 1"-2".

So what do you do about axle bearings if you use 31 spline axles and 10 bolt Tubes? I assume the 28 spline are smaller diameter.

Get custom axles made.

I understand I have to get custom axles made for length but, are you saying they will also have to be tapered down to fit the stock tubes/outer axle bearings. That seems like it would negate the whole reason of 31 spline. Sorry I searched for this and even called a dealer(tried to sell me a rear end).

Dutchman or Moser will make the axles you want. The axles will be tapered like they all are, just not as much. The OD of 31-spline is about 1.31" as I recall and the 10-bolt bearing needs a ~1.400" shaft to ride on.

just reference on different lengths. i'm curious why no one talks about the crown vic as an option, seems like it's closer in width than anything else to an fbody. putting this here as i was looking all this up from a hotrod article.

Don't think width matters since you're chopping the tubes off and splicing the 10 bolt tubes on anyway.
