Another R&P Gear Advice thread
I read a lot of threads about ring/pinion swaps. Most are from about 2004-'09. I want to make sure I'm up to date w/ the info and nothings changed recently. I'm hoping for as little whine/noise as possible and an easy install. The car is a '94 Z28 w/ an auto and 2.73's. All stock w/ a couple bolt-ons.
Brands I'm looking at after reading are Motive, Yukon, and AAM/OEM. Motive is only available in performance line for a series 2 carrier(#G87.5342x) which are harder = more noise. Yukon said this about their gears for a series 2 carrier (#YG GM7.5-342T)- "Thick gears were never offered in OEM...they are performance cut... if you want a quiet running gear you would need to run the proper carrier w/ an OEM cut gear." And I see so many post about Yukon just re-boxing other brands.
I can get AAM gears in a 3.42 ratio on ebay that the seller says will work. Would AAM make a "thick" gear for a series 2 carrier since GM used 3.23 and numerically higher in series 3 only? Any advice or personal experiences would be appreciated.
