Default Backlash excessive ? In 4th (auto) at light cruise. Backyard methods to check ?

When I am cruising in 4th at around 40mph/1200rpm, I get a flutter/click/clunk in the rear that seems to be the backlash in the rear - kind of just oscillating. Doesn't always happen, but is annoying when it does. Rear is a stock 3.42 from a 6-speed. I have a built 4l60e. Otherwise the rear seems healthy.

If it's still stock ad has never been touched, it should be okay. Mine were the same before I got new ones. Most of the stock GM rears seem to have more play than we can be satisfied with.
