Default Can someone explain to me the differences 9" vs 12 bolt

Why is the 12 bolt any weaker than the 9" if there is only an 1/8" difference between the ring gears?

Is the 9" stronger because of the orientation of the pinion to the ring gear?

One reason I have heard so far is because the 12 bolt lacks a front pinion bearing???

Can anyone clarify this for me.

Thanks

Yes, it's mainly due to the position that the pinion gear is in in relation to the ring gear. Also, the 12 bolt do have a front pinion bearing, it's just that the 9" has a third rear pinion bearing to support it.
