Bad gear install
My friend Gale has swapped gears in my Z28 twice, and ive watched him swap gears tons of times, I've also read a few articles on swapping 10 bolt gears, so I figured I would help him save a few hundred bucks and swap them myself, I set them up with .012" backlash (*richmond directions state .008 +/- .005) and measured the stock pinion width with stock shims, and made the new pinion the SAME size, the marking compound showed good contact pattern.... so we put it together, sounded good except almost unoticeable whir at only 40mph but all aftermarket gears ive heard in a 10 bolt whir... Thought it was normal, a few weeks later the whir gets louder, and now he calls me telling me its making a Grinding noise like gritting teeth when he goes around a corner, and its getting louder.... the gears have about 1,000 miles on them now, are they trash?
any ideas whats wrong?

If u ever find out the answer let me know cause the same thing is going on wth mine only on right turns if i am coming in with speed, it stops if i accelerate thru the turn. I get the whir at like 60 or so.
