what does it mean to have tall or short gears?

In a nutshell, it basically relates to how long it takes to get through the rpm band... taller gears are smaller in numeric order (like the stock 3.42s), while shorter gears are larger in numberic order (like 4.11s). The bigger the number, the shorter the gear, and the shorter amount of time it takes to get through the rpms.
