Had shop replace pinion seal, now...
So I had my pinion seal replaced today because it was leaking. The shop that I goto and trust replaced it today for $106
BUT, they said that someone had replaced the seal before, and the yoke was a little loose. And that they could hear pinion bearing growling. They suggested a rebuilt blah blah blah. Is this serious?? Will I have to do this soon? They said a rebuilt usually costs $1000-1500.

That's pretty high. If the pinion bearing preload was too little it could have torn up the pinion bearing. But it should not have torn up the gears. A bearing kit for a stock 10 bolt in not that much money. There would be a fair amount of labor to reset the pinion depth, preload and backlash , but not 800-1300 dollars of labor. Find out exactly what is involved in the "rebuild" and do geet a second opinion.
