Default 3:73 vs. 4:10

Alright, im looking for your guy's opinion. Im trying to decide on gears, I really want the 4:10 yet I still want enough to keep me going High End. Its mostly my daily driving car, yet I'm taking it to the track alot this comming year.

M6 or A4? If it's an M6 I would go with 4.10, A4 3.73's. Once I get my next paycheck I'm ordering a set of gm motives 4.10 for my M6. I'm guessing you have an M6 since your thinking about 4.10's, if your going to drag a lot and have stock hieght tires 4.10's will be the best if you don't plan on traping over 112 mph. If you plan on trapping faster you may want to go with the 3.73's

4.10'S for M6. It'll actually make 6th gear a little more friendly. Just make sure you have some sticky tires to put it to the ground.

you better think long and hard if u want this mod.

the fun ends at the top of fourth(112)

and u better have many support mods(i.e suspension, tire, clutch, shifter)
or **** gunna start breakin..

but what do i know. ?

Nothing like a cam & valvetrain to keep the good times rolling for another 10 - 15 mph

Why do believe that 4.10s are harder on the clutch and shifter than 3.42s? If you beat on them to get a maximum launch, you have to slip the clutch more on the 3.42s and I don't see that an occasional extra shift is going to be the downfall of your shifter.

that works, and taller tires. i rap mine out to 6800 to cross the traps.

supporting clutch and hydrolics seem a must for fast shifting.
i didnt really mean that your shifter would not work, just that anyone who has 4.10's knows how those first few gears go flyin by, and also know that u need to hit every gear perfect, without miss shifting. or that stock geared car will be right on your tail..

i wasent really trying to start an argument, just letting him know my personal experiences and that support mods help him get the most from his mod..

I say get 3.90's. I have 4.10's and wish I would have gotten 3.90's, but that will change after I stab a new cam in there.

It all depends what your plans are for the car.

Get either . Depends on what kind of power you are making. As long as you don't have to shift into 5th before the end of the 1/4. 3.73s are more fun on the highway when racing the crotch rockets. You can downshift into 3rd at 75mph and go! You can cruise 75 mph in 6th @ 2K rpm and spend less of a fortune on gas.

If your car is an A4, I'd go with the 3.73 gears. I've got 3.73 gears in my A4 'bird, and at 75 mph it's taching at 2700 rpm.

i just put 4.10's in my A4. 60 mph is at 2300...and 80 is at 3000
I love them, i havn't gotten any track times yet though. If they are too low i'll go to 3.73s once i get a cam bc they reach OD at 113ish.

I say leave your 3.23's in and put a 3200-3400 stall in and watch your times drop at the track...3-5tenths! That range stall would be nice and smooth on the street and a beast off the line at the track. Best bang for your buck with an A4..........gears are the best bang for your buck M6.
