Default 4.10 gears in an A4

has anybody done it and been happy with the results. i want to get as much bang for the buck as i can. most A4 guys go with 3.73s for economy reasons.

if its a weekend car not travelling over 80mph usually will the effect on the engine and fuel economy be bad?

it depends what you want? are you gonna go fi or n2o in the future? at 6k rpms in 3 gear....you'll be going 112. also...highway crusing between 60-70 will be at 2250-2650.

I would also like to know what people think about 4:10s in a A4. I have the gears and am ready to put them in but i dont know what size stall to go with. Im thinking a yank 3600 but im not sure how it will do on spray. I plan on making it street and strip but i dont care about drivability cause im not looking to travle at 100mph for a extended amount of time.

I'm not a fan of LOW gears in an A4.
I'm thinking,because i'm a spray monster?
Or i'm worried about mileage.

4.10s in an a4 arent as bad as some may say. A friend of mine has some with a 3800 stall and putting around town or on the highway you cant really tell. Once the converter goes into lockup that is. They are killer out of the hole or from a kick though.

I went from 2.73s to 3.42s to 4.10s and with a yank 3800. It was very streetable.

4:10s are great, but if you do a lot of highway driving 3:73s are better.

i have 4.10s...the only reason i may switch to 3.73s is to see if i pick up some time at the track so i won't be hitting OD.
i love them though

Why don't you just try a taller tire?

I went from 3.23s to 3.73s, liked them alot but could tell I would like 4.10s even more. Just got my 12 bolt with 4.10s. I went with a 27" tall tire also. I only had a few chances to drive it around before I put it away for storage but I could tell it was much better right away. I havn't had a chance to go hard on it but I'm pretty sure they will help at the track too. I have a good size cam and a 4000 stall also and the lower gears make the car much more streetable for just driving around town. They might be worse for the highway but I'm not driving on the highway enough for it to bother me.

I have 3.73's too, and I am seriously considering jumping up to 4.10's as well. i have a 3800 stall, medium-large cam (FMS F14) and wouldn't mind it being more streetable, which the 4.10 would hopefully make it, and since I drive it on the street 80% of the time, I definitely wouldn't mind the added bottom end pull. From what it seems here, the gear wouldn't be that big of a difference on the highway in terms of MPG. I got 26 mpg on the highway with my gears now, running on 7 cylinders! I'm think that running properly, even with a different gear, I should be able to match that. What do you think? Good choice? I will most likely pick up a 27"/28" tire for the track too.

Thats the same cam I have with a ss4000. The 4.10s and 27" tire drive much better. The car doesn't feel as loose.
