How to remove ABS tone ring from Posi Unit?
Just purchased an Auburn Pro posi unit from a member here. It has a very thin tone ring on it and the one on my unit is twice the width or more. How do you remove/install that tone ring?
Do I even have to swap out these rings?

So the real question is ;
Will a tone ring from a 2.73 gear car work on a 3.73 gear car as long as the carrier is correct?

I imagine it's a 3 series carrier you just bought. You do need the wide ring for the 3 series. I just swapped the factory Torsen and 2.73's for an Eaton and 3.73's. I screwed up initially by not changing the ring, so my ABS was all screwed up cycling every time I touched the brake and the low trac. light would come on followed by the ABS inop. light until I swapped the ring. I noticed the ring for the 3 series is about double the width of the 2 series. If you're real carefull you should be able to get the big one off w/o breaking it. If you do break it the GM part # for the ABS ring is 26029185. The new part was only $30, so don't freak if it breaks!

Ya I transferred that off of the stock torsen unit. I just carefully tapped it off with a hammer. I did have 2.73s and steped up the the different 3 series carrier. So the tone ring didnt line up and I thought the abs would be screwed. Somehow it was still picking up the very edge so my abs ended up being fine.....
