Default Tryin to learn about TC's

ok, I read posts about guys dynoing and such, and having their TCs locked and unlocked. Whats the difference? And is this a manual type thing you can do from inside the car, i mean lock and unlock it? How do most people drive with it on the street? If driving down the street, I thought that it started out unlocked, then locked up at higher speeds, but if so, how can you manually keep it unlocked or locked? Sorry for the length guys. I am just tryin to learn, because it seems like a worthwhile investment for my A4...? Thanks in advance...
