Default What kind of gearing for road racing/autocross?

What kind of gearing do race cars use. For example LG's car, or the C6r etc.

It would ultimately depend on your power level, weight, and what track you are at. Such as short/tight in autoX or faster and more straights in roadrace/open track. As for me I'm going for top speed and some roadcourse events so 310 for me.

Depends on you combination and track like said in the post before.. When a NASCAR Nextel cup car goes to a roadcourse they have a pretty good idea of what there gunna need as far as rear ratio and trans ratios...But its not uncommon to take 5 or 6 different sets..say you unload with a 4.86 you'll have a spare 4.86 4.78 4.71 5.00 maybe a 5.14(9 inch stuff) and you have 2 trans in the trailer that are dissasembled with different ratios so you can build one and practice and not have to wait... maybe you'd run a 1.91-1.43-1.11-1.0 and you need a little more or less of one practicular gear(besides 4th) the trans guy will make the changes on the spare trans.. so its ready to go its nopt hard to change a gear set in a trans in 20 minutes..Same thing goes for the sports cars they just have different drivetrain (5 or 6 speed trans and an IRS of some sort) I have done both trans changes and gear changes at the track hundreds of times and nuthin will get ya goin like scalding hot gear oil.
