I just developed a noise coming from my passenger side. When I back up, it sounds kinda like a sheet metal wobble, but it's point specific. Like if you were to paint a line on my tire at 12 o'clock, the noise would happen at 12 on every revolution. I really don't hear it when going foward, maybe two revolutions after backing up, then it stops. At first it thought like a plastic grocery bad got sucked in somewhere, but after listening more, it sounds more like a heat shield or dust shield. I have them on my 3rd gen Formula, and when bent and rub the rim, my 2000 sounds just like that. Is that a bearing or did something kick up into a tube or shield somewhere? Or is my rear end just getting ready to ? I was reading about rear outer bearings. Any ideas? I hope it's not something severe.

Well, after driving it today, still has the sound. Kinda like little bits of gravel rolling around inside. Or, like a "tin heat shield cooling off" type sound. I'm hoping it's just the bearings. Anyone?

From your description, it doesn't really sound like the axle bearing. Check the brake backing plate and ......... check the brake pads. It may just be the pad's spring metal wear indicator tab rubbing on the rotor.
