How much gain from 2.73 to 3.42?
I'm considering buying a complete rearend assembly for my 98 T/A since it has a 2.73 and a Series 2 carrier. I can get a 3.42 assembly (brake 2 brake) for $350 and was wondering if it would be worth the difference? I figure I can resale my housing later to recoupe some of the money.

Thats cheeper than a gear swap, either way you have to recalibrate the spedo. I had 2.73's in a 91 RS Auto with a 305, i went to a 3.42 bacause I could only find spedo gears for that ratio at the time. It was a nice difference. Rule of thumb is Auto gets 3.73's and a Manual gets 4.10's so if your car is an Auto 3.42's are close enough if you ask me.

just go up to 3.73s, might aswell go big. im going from 2.73s to 3.73s this summer and cant wait to see the difference, my tuner has told me that my 2.73s are holding my car back so i cant wait to get those crappy gears out.
