Critical Speed of Stock Driveshaft?
Me and my dad are in the process of building a street strip LS1 camaro. It has the 10 bolt but that is gonna be gone soon. We were descusing options on driveshafts and the question of what is the critical speed of the stock drivshaft came up. RPM's will be near 7,000 or over. I know cromoly is stronger than steel and aluminum but the saftefy benefit and strength of carbonfiber seems to good to pass up.

the speed of the motor doesnt mater, the stock DS is jus a huge pos. CF is ver strong and would seem to take some of the shock out of a launch. chromeoly is strong and lighter than regular steel yet still quite heavy. aluminum can be damn strong, jus depends on which variation of it.

I have heard half critical speed is 90mph on stock steel driveshafts, 130 for aluminum, and the carbon fiber beyond what most street cars can produce. Carbon fiber is the way to go, the stuff is light and really strong.
