Will bigger rims affect the gears?
I have heard that putting oversized rims on cars can eventually lead to the gears taking a ****, is this true? Because right now i have 18" rims on my camaro and im going to sell the camaro but keep the rims to put on my new formy. And i think that the gears in the camaro are wearing out, so i want to know if i will have any problems putting these rims on my new car.

I knew they threw off the speedo cause in my camaro its always 1mph less than what it says, but i guess i must have just imagined that i heard something about bigger wheels and gears. Thanks for the help guys.

If you can keep the outside diameter of the tires the same then it shouldn't change. That means you would have to have really low profile tires with the 18's, personally I'd stick with 17's but its your car.

If the weight of the wheel and tire package is measureably different.... it can effect a few things. But your not going to 'wear out' your differential gearing from this alone.
I am sure if you threw on some blingy wheels that weighed half a ton, like a fair share of the aftermarket wheels available, it might..... just might..... effect ABS calibration from the rotational mass increase. But at this point we are splitting hairs.........
I have however, had to re-calibrate the ABS on a few early 93 f-bodies from this phenomena (to include pad material and diameter changes). But the newer 8.x systems and sensors have not required this due to applicable changes in the operational algorithms.
But....no. I do not believe that you will have any problems with your wheel and tire selection.
