Default Problem putting C-clips back in, HELP

I want to get this done tomarrow, so i HOPE someone can help. I had to take the axles out to install my old backing plates on my new axle.
stock rearend, 99 camaro, 3.23 gears.
One side i get the c-clip in fine. but the drivers side axle will not go in far enough to get the clip in there, its about 3mm short. i have no idea why not...me and a friend spent about 1/2 an hour on it...with no progress, does anyone have any suggestions?

Make sure there's nothing on the wheel flange end of the axle preventing it from traveling over far enough. Is this a 4-channel car? The ABS pickup for the reluctor ring on the axle will sometimes prevent the axle from sliding IN far enough.

Also, you have to be close. If you were able to get the axles out, you should be able to get them back in. Hopefully, in the morning it will be obvious to you. Problems like this that I can't figure out at 12:31 in the morning are sometimes painfully obvious the next day.

Good luck.
