When i was doing my brakes i noticed when the car was on jack stands that i could grab the back wheels and move them in and out, not all the way out but about 3/4 to an inch of play back in forth with the axles on both sides. I knew there was something wrong before but didnt know what. When i drive and turn it makes a noise like the axles going in and out and finally figured it out after i did the brakes, but how do i get rid of it and is everything ok? i know the C clamps hold the axles but the axles and c clamps have never been removed. What should i do?

Sure its 3/4" ???
They will have play between the C clips & the side gears & depending upon carrier/posi the side gears to case.
It is normal for them to move somewhat unloaded.
Even with the car on it's wieght you can push it side to side & see that play in the rear.
If there is a problem only opening it up & inspecting will tell you what is up.
