c5 vette ring & pinion change?
is it possible to just change the ring and pinion in my 99 c5 vette without having to buy the whole $1500 unit.
i have a 3.42 and want to change it to a 3.90.
is this possible?

Short answer, NOPE.
The transaxle in the vette is a Getrag and needs special equipment to do, which, almost no professional shops have, so forget you having the proper equipment and fixtures.
DTE will take your old core, but it will cost close to 1500.
A tuner such as ECS or Cartek run 1200 out the door specials, much better deal IMHO. Done in a few hours, by professionals.

Well... yes, you can.
But... by the time you get done with adding up the costs of the associated parts and labor... it still comes close to $1200-1500. I would just swap out the transaxle and pay the little extra for the lesser headache.
My recommendation would be to look up the boys from RPM Transmissions . They are unquestionably, the cats *** for doing the Getrag's. As are their 300M stub and axle shafts...
