Default Pinion angle ?'s

ok, so I'm planning on a 9" rear by the end of the year. I'm gonna build my own center section & then order a Moser Housing/Axle kit. So there will be no bastardized housing involved, LOL.

I was just wonderin if the pinion angle stay correct with just swapping rears at stock ride height. The car will never be lowered. Reason I'm askin is I won't really have the extra $400 for a adj. torque arm.

If the stock one will work I'll use it for a while. I know the 9" housing uses the thru bolt for the arm like the stock 10-bolt does. So I was even ponderin having our fab shop reinforce a extra stock torque arm with some 1/8 or 1/4 in plate. Even on the mounting plate. I can get that done for free & I'm not really worried about tryin to save weight. Would this work fine??

Ive seen my roomates car stand up to over 900 ft lbs on his stock torque arm with his moser 9". Pinion angle doesnt change.

Cool. Thats what I needed to know. I'll probably pick up a cheap stock torque arm & have it reinforced just for piece of mind then.

Anyone disagree with the pinion question??

There's a local guy, "purevil" on here, that runs the stock TA on his ~800 rwhp turbo f-body. He's running it with a Moser thru-bolt 9".

I'm not too keen on taking a BFH to my floor pan in order to fit an aftermarket TA with a 9", so if I end up getting a 9" I will try to run a stock TA.

I'm interested to see how you reinforce yours. Good luck.

Reinforcing stockers tend to weaken the metal from the heat of the welding process. Be careful.

Well our fab shops make pressure vessels for the oil/gas industry, so the welders there are pretty darn good. I'll let them know ahead of time what type of metal it is & ask what they can do. Probably just use some scrap SA36 or SA516-70 steel plate.

I'll post some before & after pics. If it turns out really decent I might even get it powdercoated.

Cool. I'd like to see it when it's done.

Regarding fatigue from welding, maybe the strengening can be accomplished by bolting something to the stocker. Sure, bolts might cause clearance issues but maybe button head fasteners would work out.

Hell if I have to I'll have the shop throw it in the big oven with a vessel & post weld heat treat it @ 1150*F for an hour or so.
